Manual transmission repairs can be small repairs such as a clutch adjustment, or on a larger scale with rebuilding, reconditioning or replacement of transmissions which are all completed onsite by our experienced staff at Thomastown Autos.

Some common signs you have a manual transmission or clutch problem;


  • Transmission is slipping between gears while driving or popping back to neutral
  • Unusual grinding/clunking/humming noises – especially when in neutral
  • Clutch is dragging – clutch stays engaged and causes grinding noises when trying to shift

Thomastown Autos is a fully Licensed Vehicle Tester (LVT) and fully accredited with VicRoads. At Thomastown Autos, we provide complete roadworthy assessments and certificates and test against the approved VicRoads guidelines.

VicRoads have introduced stringent roadworthy certificate standards to ensure unsafe vehicles are not on sold to unsuspecting buyers. According to current Victorian legislation, road worthy certificates are necessary if you wish to sell your car privately, or wish to register an unregistered vehicle. They are not required if you are selling your vehicle to a Licensed Motor Car Trader (LMCT). 

What is inspected;

The inspection is a check of the vehicle to ensure that the key components are in a fit condition for safe road use. It includes:


  • wheels and tyres
  • steering, suspensions and braking systems
  • seats and seatbelts
  • lights and reflectors
  • windscreen, and windows including front wipers and washers
  • vehicle structure
  • other safety related items on the body, chassis or engine.
